Students Cut their Network Wires to Connect Wirelessly

Uffculme School Upgrades Network to Deliver High Performance Wi-Fi for their Students Using Xirrus 802.11n Wi-Fi Arrays

Xirrus, Inc., the Wi-Fi “Power-Play” that delivers the most wireless coverage, bandwidth, and throughput in the industry announced today the deployment of their 802.11abg+n Wi-Fi Arrays across Uffculme School, located in Cullompton, United Kingdom. Uffculme School replaced their existing Access Point infrastructure with Xirrus 802.11abg+n Wi-Fi Arrays to gain better network performance for their wireless video streaming and 1:1 computer initiative. The transition to Xirrus was quick, seamless, and provided the school with the necessary bandwidth for Wi-Fi to be their primary network connection.

Uffculme School is a Foundation Comprehensive School for boys and girls aged 11-16. There are approximately 950 students and 140 staff members spread across nine buildings. The school aims to provide effective formal and informal learning through which all of its pupils will achieve their potential in as many ways as possible, develop spiritual and moral values, obtain a variety of skills and qualifications to prepare them for the next stage of life, and be part of a community within which all feel secure and valued.

“We have been a specialist school for Mathematics and Computing since 2005 and have just been designated as a High Performing Specialist School for Applied Learning,” said Lorraine Heath, headteacher of Uffculme School. “A central strand of the move to personalize the learning experience for all students is our goal to provide every student with a laptop computer with ready access to media resources and the internet.”

Matt Pearce, Network Manager at Uffculme School said, “We already had a Wi-Fi network supplying ample coverage, but we lacked the user density for four new class sets of 32 laptops each. We decided to invest in a system that could deliver the bandwidth and throughput for our future 1:1 initiative. With multiple computing platforms from Windows notebooks and netbooks to Blackberry and Windows Mobile PDAs streaming video over our own Streaming Media system and accessing our Uffculme School Portal (VLE) inc. Digital Media, it was critical we install the highest performing Wi-Fi network possible.” Matt continued, “We tried several Wi-Fi vendors before selecting Xirrus. We chose Xirrus because of the low number of access devices needed to cover our nine building campus and their ability to cope extremely well with high density areas.”

Students Gain Greater Mobility and Bandwidth with Xirrus 802.11n

UK’s Angmering Award Winning School Deploys Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays to Improve Student-Teacher Collaboration

Xirrus, Inc., the Wi-Fi “Power-Play” that delivers the most wireless coverage, bandwidth, and throughput in the industry announced today the deployment of their high performance Wi-Fi Arrays across the Angmering School, located in Angmering, West Sussex, United Kingdom. The School has deployed the Wi-Fi Arrays to cover 55 classrooms and office areas and to support streaming video and other bandwidth-hungry applications that in the past had brought their legacy Wi-Fi to its knees. Xirrus was chosen because it required far fewer devices and delivered the bandwidth and user density needed to scale a high performance Wi-Fi network for years to come.

Angmering School is a community comprehensive school with a Sports College specialist status for science. The school enrolls upwards of 1,400 students between the ages 11 through 18 years of age and is a recognized Dyslexia Friendly School and was given the Autism Aware Award.

“Our initial reason for deploying wireless was to allow Sixth Form and disabled students to securely use their own and school laptops on our network, however, our legacy wireless network was unreliable and slow,” said Marc Ginnaw, ICT Services Manager at Angmering. “Xirrus not only was able to easily connect laptop computers to our network, but they also gave us the flexibility to add wireless security cameras, and the ability to connect traditionally wired workstations wirelessly to the network, saving us cable runs.”

Washington County Public Schools Delivers High Performance Wi-Fi

Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays Used to Deliver Online Learning and State Testing Wirelessly

Xirrus, Inc., the Wi-Fi “Power-Play” that delivers the most wireless coverage, bandwidth, and throughput in the industry announced today the deployment of their high performance Wi-Fi Arrays across Washington County Public Schools (WCPS), located in Hagerstown Maryland which is in the Western part of Maryland, as part of the Tri-State area including nearby Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Besides being the most powerful and robust Wi-Fi solution available today, the Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays was also the Wi-Fi solution able to deliver the necessary bandwidth, user capacity along, and seamless interoperability with their Novell solution and VOIP phone system.
