Australian School Increases Wi-Fi Speeds with 802.11n

Galen Catholic College Increases Wi-Fi Performance with Xirrus® 802.11n Wi-Fi Arrays™

Xirrus, Inc., the Wi-Fi “Power-Play” that delivers the most wireless coverage, bandwidth, and throughput in the industry announced today the deployment of their 802.11abg+n Wi-Fi Arrays at Galen Catholic College located in Wangaratta, Victoria, Australia. Galen Catholic College selected 802.11n Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays to support their high performance applications and high-density classrooms campus-wide.

Comprised of 17 buildings with over 63,000 square feet (19,428 square meters) of educational space, Galen Catholic College services nearly 900 students from Wangaratta and other local districts in Australia.

“At Galen College, we work hard to provide our students and teachers with the latest technology for enhanced collaboration, document-management, and Internet access,” said Dave Seiter, Principal at Galen Catholic College. “We chose to deploy Xirrus 802.11abg Wi-Fi Arrays last year because it was the only Wi-Fi solution capable of handling our 1:1 computer initiative and that would allow us to easily to upgrade 802.11n when we were ready—we made the right decision!”

“Recently, we upgraded our 802.11abg Wi-Fi Arrays to 802.11n—the process was quick and easy,” added Dave. “Xirrus made it possible to replace all our desktop computers—we now have hundreds of Wi-Fi-enabled HP® and Apple® computing devices wirelessly running applications like ClickView® and Microsoft® Sharepoint® across our campus. Everyone at Galen is extremely impressed with the pervasive coverage and wired-like speeds experience from the Xirrus products—equated to higher productivity and education time for all.”

“By going with Xirrus’ 802.11abg solution last year, Galen was able to effortlessly upgrade to 802.11n, further increasing the connection speeds for their students and teachers,” said James Shields, Regional Manager for Xirrus. “Student productivity drastically increased as a result of the Xirrus deployment, not to mention the hundreds of thousands saved by repurposing two computer rooms for general instructional use.”

Xirrus Delivers More Bandwidth

Bandwidth becomes increasingly more important as the success of Wi-Fi grows – as the number of Wi-Fi users and applications grow, so does the need for more radios across more channels. The problem is that legacy Wi-Fi architectures, such as the thin access point + centralized closet controller, did not plan for the success of Wi-Fi – they backhaul all data to a central point before re-distributing back out, creating unsecure bottleneck and decreasing the overall performance of the network.

The Xirrus Wi-Fi Array is the most powerful Wi-Fi device in the industry, giving you…

  • 4, 8, 12, 16 and soon 24 802.11abg+n radios
  • Wi-Fi controller and multi-Gigabit switch
  • Full line-rate encryption engine for all users
  • Directional antenna system for large coverage area
  • Modular, upgradeable architecture

Combining these functions with intelligence at the network entry point results in greater performance, control, and flexibility per cable drop than any other Wi-Fi product – all this while using 75% fewer devices, cables, switch ports, energy, and installation time compared with any other offering.

Any organization moving towards Wi-Fi as their primary network connection needs to examine the performance capabilities of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Array.

Must I say more!?
