The Holy Trinity Church of England Secondary School Increases Network Reliability for Students by Upgrading to 802.11abg+n Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays

First Official Site Survey

So yesterday was my first official site survey that I partook in. Let me just tell you that I have a newfound appreciation for the Applications Engineers, Technologists, and Priniciple Technologists of Xirrus.

My day started off early where I had to wake up 6 in the morning and be on the road by 6:30 to avoid the horrendous LA traffic. I got to my destination around 8-8:30. I met up with my coworker and our day of site surveying began.

I normally don’t do site surveys, but this time was different. Most of our employees that do the usual site surveys were out of town on a major project. Applications Engineer Sam Keys was left by himself to lug around an Array, Tripod, carrying case, backpack, carrying backpack, and a notebook. Therefore I was asked to give him a helping hand carrying the Array and Tripod around. After carrying the Array and Tripod around for a few hours, with breaks in between, it felt like a pile of bricks resting on my shoulders and pushing me down.

In the span of 8 hours, we successfully surveyed about 5 buildings. Each building had multiple stories, so we had to survey every level of the building, sometimes even twice to check the bleed through.

The two representatives of the IT dept. were kind enough to walk us around during out site survey and unlock any doors for us. Sam literally surveyed every corner, every room, every level of each building we had to go into.

Being a part of the marketing dept. over at Xirrus, I’m never really exposed to this kind of work. I am glad that I was able to take part in yesterday’s site survey because I really do have a bigger appreciation for what AE’s and PT’s do for the company. Not only do they have to know a whole lot about Xirrus and Wi-Fi, they have to be fit and in good to great shape because this is labor intensive as well, if done alone.

You also have to deal with the strangers when they ask, “what is that? A flying saucer!?” Really, as if I have never heard of that one before. But we still acknowledge the question with an answer, and they random person is astound with what we are going to do, or they could just be acting like they’re interested in what we’re talking about.

Overall, it was definitely a great learning experience. I even took some technology lessons from Sam yesterday as he was site surveying.

Students Cut their Network Wires to Connect Wirelessly

Uffculme School Upgrades Network to Deliver High Performance Wi-Fi for their Students Using Xirrus 802.11n Wi-Fi Arrays

Uffculme School is a Foundation Comprehensive School for boys and girls aged 11-16. There are approximately 950 students and 140 staff members spread across nine buildings. The school aims to provide effective formal and informal learning through which all of its pupils will achieve their potential in as many ways as possible, develop spiritual and moral values, obtain a variety of skills and qualifications to prepare them for the next stage of life, and be part of a community within which all feel secure and valued.

“We have been a specialist school for Mathematics and Computing since 2005 and have just been designated as a High Performing Specialist School for Applied Learning,” said Lorraine Heath, headteacher of Uffculme School. “A central strand of the move to personalize the learning experience for all students is our goal to provide every student with a laptop computer with ready access to media resources and the internet.”

Matt Pearce, Network Manager at Uffculme School said, “We already had a Wi-Fi network supplying ample coverage, but we lacked the user density for four new class sets of 32 laptops each. We decided to invest in a system that could deliver the bandwidth and throughput for our future 1:1 initiative. With multiple computing platforms from Windows notebooks and netbooks to Blackberry and Windows Mobile PDAs streaming video over our own Streaming Media system and accessing our Uffculme School Portal (VLE) inc. Students Gain Greater Mobility and Bandwidth with Xirrus 802.11n

UK’s Angmering Award Winning School Deploys Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays to Improve Student-Teacher Collaboration

Xirrus, Inc., the Wi-Fi “Power-Play” that delivers the most wireless coverage, bandwidth, and throughput in the industry announced today the deployment of their high performance Wi-Fi Arrays across the Angmering School, located in Angmering, West Sussex, United Kingdom. The School has deployed the Wi-Fi Arrays to cover 55 classrooms and office areas and to support streaming video and other bandwidth-hungry applications that in the past had brought their legacy Wi-Fi to its knees. Washington County Public Schools Delivers High Performance Wi-Fi

Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays Used to Deliver Online Learning and State Testing Wirelessly

Xirrus, Inc., the Wi-Fi “Power-Play” that delivers the most wireless coverage, bandwidth, and throughput in the industry announced today the deployment of their high performance Wi-Fi Arrays across Washington County Public Schools (WCPS), located in Hagerstown Maryland which is in the Western part of Maryland, as part of the Tri-State area including nearby Pennsylvania and West Virginia. UK’s Best Hospital of 2007 Improves Medical Services with Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays

Interop 2009 Is On Its Way!
